CELPIP Speaking is not only about your English level — it is also about your ability to organize your ideas quickly under pressure.
The FAST Plan gives you one simple structure that works for every speaking task. It helps you:
✅ understand the situation quickly
✅ organize your ideas during preparation time
✅ avoid long pauses and repetition
✅ deliver a clear answer from beginning to end
⏱️ The FAST Plan (Use During Preparation Time)
F — Find the Task & Your Listener (5–10 seconds)
Before you speak, quickly identify:
1. Who are you speaking to?
A friend?
A customer service representative?
A manager?
The general public?
2. What type of task is this?
Giving advice?
Sharing an opinion?
Comparing options?
Describing a situation?
Solving a problem?
Knowing your audience changes your tone.
A — Answer in One Sentence (5 seconds)
Create your opening sentence immediately.
Your first sentence should show:
your advice
your choice
your opinion
your main idea
Examples:
Opinion
“I believe working remotely is the better option because it improves flexibility and productivity.”
Advice
“I suggest taking two steps to prepare for this situation.”
Recommendation
“I recommend Option B because it is more practical and affordable.”
S — Select Two Strong Reasons (10–15 seconds)
Choose two different angles.
Avoid repeating the same idea.
Strong CELPIP angles:

✅ Long-term benefits
Example:
Weak:
“It is cheaper and saves money.”
(Too similar)
Strong:
“It reduces costs, and it also saves time.”
(Different angles)
T — Tie Each Reason to a Quick Example (5–10 seconds)
Add one small detail for each reason.
Think:
Time + Place + Number + Result
Example:
Reason:
“It saves time.”
Example:
“For example, my commute used to take 45 minutes, but now I can finish my work earlier.”
Your preparation notes should only be four short cues:

Remember:
You need ideas, not full sentences.

When the timer is almost finished:

🎯 FAST Practice Scripts
A) Task 1 — Advice (90 seconds)
“First, I recommend practicing with a timer because it helps you control your speaking speed. For example, if you are preparing a presentation, you can practice keeping each section within a specific time limit. Second, I suggest recording yourself because you can identify areas for improvement. For instance, you may notice that you speak too quickly or repeat certain words. Overall, these two strategies will help you feel more confident before your presentation.”
B) Task 3 — Describe a Scene (60 seconds)
“This picture appears to show a community market. I can notice several details. First, there are many customers near the fruit stand, which suggests the market is busy. Second, I can see a staff member organizing a line, so the situation appears controlled. Overall, it looks like a crowded but well-organized community event.”
C) Task 5 — Compare & Persuade (60 seconds)
“I recommend Option B because it is more efficient and affordable. First, it can reduce waiting times. For example, adding evening staff could help customers receive service faster after work. Second, it requires fewer resources, which means the company can save money. For these reasons, I believe Option B is the best choice.”
D) Task 6 — Difficult Situation (60 seconds)
“I need to reschedule my appointment because I am currently stuck in traffic due to a road closure. Could we move my appointment to tomorrow morning or possibly later today after 4 p.m.? I apologize for the inconvenience, and I would appreciate your understanding. Please let me know which time works best.”
E) Task 7 — Opinion (90 seconds)
“I support creating more bus-only lanes because they improve transportation efficiency and reduce delays. First, they save commuters time. For example, during rush hour, a trip that normally takes 20 minutes can become almost 40 minutes because of traffic congestion. Second, reliable public transportation encourages more people to use buses, which can reduce the number of cars on the road. Although other solutions may help, dedicated bus lanes address the main problem. Therefore, I believe they are the better choice.”
F) Task 8 — Unusual Situation (60 seconds)
“I am currently at Lakeview Station, and I have encountered a problem. The ticket machine accepted my payment, but it did not print my ticket. I need someone to reset the machine or help me receive my pass. My receipt shows the payment time was 8:12 a.m. I will wait near the north entrance sign.”

Before pressing Start, ask yourself:
☐ Who am I speaking to?
☐ What is the task asking me to do?
☐ Do I have my opening sentence?
☐ Do I have two different reasons?
☐ Do I have one example for each reason?
☐ Do I know my closing sentence?
Reminder:
Clear structure beats complicated vocabulary.
A well-organized answer with simple, accurate English can achieve a high CELPIP score.
